Frequently Asked Questions about StringsAloud

Are you music students?
No. We are all former students of leading UK music colleges and universities.
We are now all professional freelance musicians and instrumental teachers for various local authorities.

How long has Stringsaloud String Quartet been playing?
Stringsaloud have been working since 2005, providing entertainment for weddings and corporate functions - we have a wide experience of every aspect of providing musical entertainment in a range of indoor and outdoor venues around the Central Belt of Scotland.

How can I check if you are available for my event?
Our diary is constantly being updated because we hold both provisional and confirmed bookings. Because of this we do not publish it online. To check whether your date is free, please contact us via methods included on this site.

I can’t see a list of packages online, how much do you charge?

Stringsaloud have a set rate for 1-3 hours and set rates for any time incurred after the 3 hour mark…every booking is individual and music arrangements and travel fees affect each quote differently. Contact the quartet online for a quote.

If I enquire, is my day held for me?
No. When you enquire we make a provisional note of your enquiry in the diary. However, this does not reserve that date for you. When we receive another enquiry for that date we will often try to let you know, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee this as we receive well in excess of 100 enquiries a year.

How do I confirm a booking?
Dates are confirmed via a deposit on a first come, first served basis, with the outstanding balance due a month before your event. A contract is issued with our confirmation of our availability and on receipt of a signed copy this from you and your deposit your date is confirmed. Stringsaloud do not perform at any event without prior payment of full outstanding balance, no cash is accepted on the day of event as payment.

How far in advance can I book you?
Stringsaloud have been booked up to 2 years in advance for weddings as the diary is extremely busy. Details such as timings and other requirements can change in the run-up to events, however it is necessary one month before the event that you confirm timings, venue and musical requirements along with payment of outstanding balance.

Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, a £50.00 deposit, cheques made payable to “Stringsaloud”, is required to secure any booking.

What information do you need about my day?
When we confirm availability we issue a contract for your to fill in your contact details and as much detail as you can fill in about your event such as venue, timings, which part of the event you wish us to perform during.

When do you need to know my choices of music for my wedding?
A repertoire list is issued with the contract, and an up to date version can be found online and on our Blog.
Normally musical choices are required 1 month in advance although during May- September if you require hymns or a new musical arrangement it would be helpful to have a little more advance warning….

Do you charge for musical arrangements?
Arranging music is a complex and time consuming task, any piece or song you would like the quartet to arrange and perform will be charged at £50.00 per song/piece. We do not charge for the arrangement of hymns.

What will you need on the day?
We will need four armless chairs. If we are to play outside please ensure there is adequate shade ie bandstand/gazebo or shaded area. We will need somewhere to store our cases and bags whilst we are playing, and basic refreshments.

How will you know where to set up?
It is very helpful for us if someone at the venue has been informed of your requirements for this. If you let us know who this will be, they will be able to direct us to your chosen location.

Will you play outside?
Stringsaloud will make every effort play outside, weather permitting.
Players reserve the right to refuse to play outdoors, antique instruments may be irretrievably damaged in strong sunlight and rain, wind makes it impractical to bow or use sheetmusic outdoors, if there is a bandstand or adequate shelter from a gazebo it may be possible to play outside - this will always be weather permitting at players’ discretion.

What do you do if one of your members is ill on the day?
This is a rare occurance. However as we currently have a Glasgow and Edinburgh team it is not and issue and we have a pool of guest members who are able to stand in if required should any situations arise where a player is unable to make a date. Our guest members are all experienced and talented players, most of the girls are personal friends of the quartet and have performed our music many times.

Can I hear you play?
Yes please listen to our demo tracks on this website. It may be that from time to time the quartet will appear at band showcases or wedding shows, dates and venues will be included in our “News” section on the website.
